@Michele_Laino

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

here we have to apply this formula: \[d = \sqrt {{{\left( {{x_2} - {x_1}} \right)}^2} + {{\left( {{y_2} - {y_1}} \right)}^2}} \] where (x1,y1)=(5,0) and (x2,y2)=(0,12)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is 12

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

after a substitution, we can write: \[\begin{gathered} d = \sqrt {{{\left( {{x_2} - {x_1}} \right)}^2} + {{\left( {{y_2} - {y_1}} \right)}^2}} \hfill \\ \hfill \\ = \sqrt {{{\left( {0 - 5} \right)}^2} + {{\left( {12 - 0} \right)}^2}} = \sqrt {25 + 144} = \hfill \\ \hfill \\ = \sqrt {169} = ...? \hfill \\ \end{gathered} \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

13

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

that's right!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay! Thanks!
