Hey! Ok, so the first thing that you need to do is find the Molar Mass (MM) of N20. In order to do that you're going to use the periodic table to find the atomic mass units of each element in your compound. (Look up the atomic mass of Nitrogen and then the atomic mass of oxygen). To find the MM you're you're going to take 2 times the atomic mass of Nitrogen (bc there are 2) and then ADD the atomic mass of Oxygen (you don't have to multiply by anything because there is only 1 Oxygen present). |dw:1438271781897:dw| You do that because you want to know the total grams/mol of the compound in order to figure out how much nitrogen and oxygen are there. So the units of your answer will be g/mol. Next, to find the percentage of nitrogen present in the compound you are going to set up the formula as follows: |dw:1438271887658:dw| So you're going to do 2 times the atomic mass units of one nitrogen divided by the total molar mass of the compound (N20). Multiply that answer by 100 to turn it into a percent. *If you're not sure if the answer is correct you can always find the percentage of the oxygen by dividing it's atomic mass over the total molar mass of the compound and multiplying that by 100 to get the precent. If both percents add up to 100 you've got the correct answer* Good luck!
