1.What type of radiation is emitted when chromium-51 decays into manganese-51? Show the nuclear equation that leads you to this answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is this right???? Chromium- 51/24 ---> Manganese- 51/25 + Beta- 0/-1

OpenStudy (photon336):

@dajala why do you think it's manganese?

OpenStudy (rushwr):

@Photon336 Thy have given it so we will have to consider that !

OpenStudy (rushwr):

@dajala U are correct except for that u have to add a neutrino to the products side. I'll recall the beeta negative decay again. Beeta negative decay occurs when the element has more no. of neutrons than protons. Hence a neutron will be broken down to one proton , one beeta negative particle and neutrino. So the no. of protons will increase. But the atomic mass won't change cuz even if the no. of neutrons decrease by one the no. of protons will increase by one so the atomic mass remains unchaged. ( atomic mass = no of protons + no. of neutrons)

ok im kinda lost
