OpenStudy (photon336):

Salts such as sodium chloride and Calcium chloride lower the freezing points of aqueous solutions. The reason why this occurs is that A it is necessary to cool the solution further to compensate for the heat of solution of the salts B the dissolved salts increase the density of the solution. C the ions from the dissolved salts interfere with the formation of ice crystals. D the dissolved salts lower the vapor pressure of the solution.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

which do you think it is? Keep in mind that you have NaCl \(\rightarrow\) Na\(^+\) and Cl\(^-\) which can attract positive and negative charges due to their charges.

OpenStudy (photon336):

I thought it was C because adding ions because i thought that would lower freezing point.

OpenStudy (rushwr):

I will go for C as well cuz freezing pont is a colligative property hence it depends on the no. of dissolved particles. !

OpenStudy (abb0t):

yeah. interferes with the attraction and hence, formation of a solid strucutre, which is a lattice.
