Which point can you see on the function f(x) ?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
-2?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i think its C but im very unsure
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
a point is an ordered pair like (1,2)
the 1 means you go 1 unit to the right
2 means you go 2 units up

I meant -2,-1
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
I see (-1,1) on the graph of f(x). Do you agree?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
wow you are right
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so now how do I get to the solution?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
the notation -2f(x) means -2*f(x)
the star * means multiply

y is the same as f(x)
so we know when (-1,1) the value of y is 1, meaning that f(x) = 1
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
-2*f(x) = -2*1 = -2
x stays the same throughout.
the point (-1,1) becomes (-1,-2)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ohhhh now that makes alot more sense
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
these steps will happen to EVERY point on f(x) to get g(x)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
im graphing it now and it looks like D would be my solution
