Does anyone know about z scores? I am having a hard time. On some of the questions, I get part of it, but don't know how to finish the problem. Can anyone help me,please?
go ahead
The shaded area is z= .18
mean 0 and standard deviation is 1
so it gave you a probability 0.18 and it wants you to find a z-score? or the other way around?
find the area of the shaded region. the graph depicts the Standard normal distribution with mean 0 and SD 1.
The area of the shaded region is......
ok so it sounds like they gave you a z score of z = 0.18
how is the shaded region set up? to the right of the z-score? or to the left?
to the left
ok so you can use a table like this one https://www.stat.tamu.edu/~lzhou/stat302/standardnormaltable.pdf
locate the row that starts with 0.1 (on page 2)
then find the column that has 0.08 up at the top the intersection of the "0.1" row and "0.08" column has 0.57142 in the cell so that means P(Z < 0.18) = 0.57142
OMG!!!! Thank you so much!!! You're a lifesaver. I've been sitting here trying everything!
I should be able to use the chart for all z score problems, correct?
Yes that is correct. You can also use a TI83 or TI84 calculator to do the same thing more or less. The calculator allows you to use values not found on the table you use the normalcdf function
tables like these should be found in the back of your stats book in the appendix
Ok. Thank you again!
you're welcome
