If solid Lead (II) Oxide reacts with Ammonia gas (Nitrogen Trihydride) the resulting products are Lead Metal, Nitrogen gas, and water vapor. What type of reaction is this?

OpenStudy (taramgrant0543664):

Well let's start with an equation PbO(s) + NH3(g) -->Pb(s) + N2(g) + H2O(g) Balancing we get 3PbO(s) + 2NH3(g) --> 3Pb(s) + N2(g) + 3H2O(g)

OpenStudy (taramgrant0543664):

Types of reactions include: Combination or synthesis A + B ----> AB Decomposition AB ----> A + B Substitution or Single Replacement A + BC ----> B + AC Metathesis or Double Displacement AB + CD ----> AD + CB

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does double displacement make sense...Can it be endothermic?

OpenStudy (photon336):

to me that reaction doesn't look like double replacement

OpenStudy (taramgrant0543664):

In double displacement they switch places as I've shown above so I agree with @Photon336 with it not looking like a double displacement

OpenStudy (photon336):

yeah you explained it nicely, is it possible for a double replacement to be endothermic? I guess you can't really tell just by looking at the reaction, you would need the bond energies or enthalpy of reaction or something i guess.

OpenStudy (taramgrant0543664):

You would have to look at the enthalpies of the products and the reactants in order to determine exoteric or endothermic
