Explain the similarities and differences between the two titration curves, a and b, shown in the image. For each curve, identify the type of titrant added. Tbh, I have no clue how to do this :/

There is an image that goes with this...

OpenStudy (arindameducationusc):

In a) strong acid is titrated with strong base (titrant= strong base) In b) weak acid is titrated with strong base (titrant=strong base)

OpenStudy (rushwr):

in the 1st place we have to determine what is in the titration flask and what is being added to the flask. We measure the pH of the solution in the titration flask. According to the graphs we can see the starting pH is a very less number. Therefore we can say 2 acids were in the titration flask and it was a base which was added to the titration flask drop wise. (titrant) A curve ; as u can see the A curve starts from a point lower than b. When the acidity increases the pH decreases right? So we can say that for the A curve they have used a strong acid while a weak acid is used in the B curve. We can assume that the base used in both cases are strong bases as the end pH is very very high !

OpenStudy (arindameducationusc):

I agree with @Rushwr ...

OpenStudy (rushwr):

A curve would be the curve for the strong acid strong bases titration where the base is the titrant B curve would be the curve for the weak acid string base titration where the base is the titrant.
