Which of the following correctly describes NaBr? It is a neutral salt. It is an acidic salt. It is a basic salt. The acid-base properties cannot be determined.

OpenStudy (rushwr):

NaBr is a salt formed from the neutralization of a strong base with a strong acid (NaOH + HBr). Since they both dissociate completely, they form a neutral solution. So I guess it would be 1. @Photon336 @taramgrant0543664 @nincompoop

well for this we would need to see what possibly could have produced this salt, remember salts can be acidic basic or neutral depending on the species that produced them. we know that NaBr is a salt, the product of an acid base reaction. Na+ could have been NAOH, because usually sodium is a strong base. now Br, we know that must have been HBR which is a strong acid. why? because strong acids dissociate to produce H+ so the predominate species would be Br- the conjugate base of HBr. the reaction is \[HBr + NaOH --> H _{2}O + NaBr\] you can see the type of reaction this is: a neutralization reaction.
