Data question
I think B for the first one
If the data is expressed numerically, then it is quantitative. Is the length of a caterpillar described using a number?
yes
Right, then it must be quantitative.
Now, is it discrete or continuous?
discrte because it cant be continuous
Discrete means that there are a limited amount of numbers that can be used to describe the data. For example, shoe sizes. Continuous means that there an infinite number of values between any two values. So, as the caterpillar grows, does it grow all of sudden from 1 cm to 2 cm, or does it have to grow through an infinite number of lengths?
1 to 2
Careful. When you grow from 140 cm tall to 150 cm tall, your height doesn't jump instantaneously from 140 to 150. You have to grow through 141, 142, 143, etc. And, on an even finer scale, you have to grow through 140.00001, 140.00002, 140.00003, etc. So you height has to increase through an infinite number of increments. In other word, continuously.
Am I making sense? The growth of any living thing has to be continuous data.
oh i seee
but its differetn from 1 to 2 ... and 10 to 20
unless it goes 1.. l.5 then 2
That's right. But to pass from 1 to 2, or from 10 to 20, a growing thing has to pass through every length in between. It can't increase all of a sudden in one jump.
then the next one could be D or B then
On the other hand, shoe sizes are discrete. I can buy shoes that are size 8, or 8-1/2, or 9. But I cant buy shoes that are size 8.4675. There are only certain acceptable values. That's discrete data.
