In the redox reaction below, which is the reducing agent? MnO2 (s) + 4H+(aq) + 2Cl (aq) > Mn2+(aq) + 2H2O(l) + Cl2(g) CI- CI2 Mn2+ MnO2 I think its MnO2?
A reducing agent oxidizes it self to reduce some other species right? So can u guess what would act like a reducing agent ?
Mn2+?
nop! In the equation MnO2 ----> Mn2+ right? So Mn will be reduced !!!!!
Always look at it from the right direction. U shud go from reactants to products. In other words to the forward direction.
Here MnO2 acts as an oxidizing agent as it goes from +8 to +2 Reducing agent is something which oxidises itself to reduce another species. Oxidizing agent is sumthn which reduces itself to oxidize sumthn eslse.
Did u get it ?
Cl-?
yeah !!!!! So do u get it nw?
I do thanks!
Anytym !:)
