How many grams of Sodium hydroxide are present in 50.0 mL of a Sodium hydroxide solution that is 0.0950 M? moles solute = molarity x L of solution 50ml = 0.05 L 0.0950 M * 0.05 L = 0.0475 moles solute 0.0475 moles solute * 39.99711 g OH = 1.90 g OH Is this correct @cuanchi ?
@mathmate
\[liters*\frac{ mol }{ L } = moles \] \[moles solute NaOH* \frac{ mass NaOH }{ 1 mol }\]
That was supposed to be molar mass of NaOH, that's just to illustrate how the units cancel out, and that's why it's important to include them in your calculation.
@Photon336 I submitted and it says it's incorrect.
@taramgrant0543664
they give you (molarity) and the volume of NaOH and ask for the number of grams but she says that the procedure she did was wrong,
When I type it into my calculator for that first part the 0.0950x0.05 I get 0.00475 not 0.0475 so that would give a final answer of 0.1899g
Tara I assumed that her numbers were correct, I was just checking like how she did the set up
Ya I saw the set up was fine so I questioned the calculations simple error
@lena772 Did you get what tara explained? However, all given non-exact information is given to 3 significant figures, so the answer should be 0.190 g as opposed to 0.19 g. The number of significant figures in Chemistry is of utmost importance.
