If the formula for a compound is represented by X2Y3 and the charge on the Y ion is -2, what is the charge in the X ion? 1, 2, 3, or 4?

OpenStudy (taramgrant0543664):

The Y has a charge of -2 snd there are 3 Ys hence Y3 so the Y has a charge -6 The compound is going to be neutral so equal to 0 so to get 0 from -6 we need to have a +6, you notice that there are 2 Xs hence X2 so 6/2=3 so the charge on X is +3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh ok i understand your explanation, but -3 isn't in the answer choices

OpenStudy (anonymous):

omg whoops

yuo said +3 ok thank you
