The relationship between pressure and volume, when moles and temperature of a gas are held constant, is: PV = k We could say then, that: If the volume of the gas is doubled, the pressure also doubles. If the volume of a gas is halved, the pressure is doubled. If the volume of gas is doubled, the pressure is unaffected. If the volume of a gas is halved, the pressure is tripled.

I think its D? @arindameducationusc

OpenStudy (arindameducationusc):

PV=nRT

OpenStudy (photon336):

@mmazach here is another way to look at it, conceptually. First if you have two cylinders A and B same number of moles of gas which one would have the greater volume? |dw:1439952619690:dw|

OpenStudy (arindameducationusc):

no its not D!

OpenStudy (arindameducationusc):

P is inversely proprtional to V. So, If the volume of a gas is halved, the pressure is doubled.

OpenStudy (arindameducationusc):

Got it ?

OpenStudy (arindameducationusc):

@Photon336 Nice drawings.. please explain him by diagram it will be good..... :D

OpenStudy (photon336):

thank you.. If cylinder A has a greater volume it means there's more space for our gas particles to move around. if we have the same number of gas molecules in cylinder A and B. now let's say pressure = how many times the gas particles hit the walls of the container. if the gas has less space to move around then it will hit the walls of the container more.
