Below is a Maxwell-Boltzman distribution curve graph. Which statement offers the best interpretation of the graph?

OpenStudy (tywower):

OpenStudy (tywower):

Curve 1 is at a higher temperature than curve 2. Curve 1 has a higher activation energy than curve 2. Curve 2 is at a higher temperature than curve 1. Curve 2 has a catalyst added to the reaction.

OpenStudy (arindameducationusc):

haven't tried problems like this for a long time... But there is a 60% chance I can help you, but can you give me some time?

OpenStudy (tywower):

sure!

Effect of Temperature on distribution of speeds=> It may be noted that the fraction of molecules having the most probable speed remains same as long as temperature remains same. However on increasing the temperature of the gas the molecular motion becomes rapid and consequently the value of the most probable speed also increases. The entire distribution curve, in fact shifts towards right with rise in temperature (Will show you in figure). How ever the area under the two curves remains same because it represents number of molecules. |dw:1440299572636:dw|
