OpenStudy (photon336):

Entropy is defined as randomness, this means like how much disorder there is. The universe tends towards disorder, second law of thermodynamics helps us to explain this ; best way to explain this is that imagine your room. You need to put energy into cleaning it but after a while as you come and go it gets naturally dirty and disorganized. You need to put in energy to make something more ordered well.. Generally Let's take a look at our three common states of matter. A solid; the atoms are all organized and ordered. Liquid; there are still intermolecular forces meaning attractions between molecules but the molecules can flow, and are more disordered Gas: the gas molecules have overcome their inter molecular forces, and move around more freely than in the liquid phase. Generally entropy increases So it's Solid <liquid < gas For this question you need to look and see if you have any phase change. If you're going no from solid to liquid or liquid to gas sure there's going to be an increase in entropy.
