Question Below Please help i don't have much time...

OpenStudy (horsegal244):

OpenStudy (horsegal244):

@pooja195

OpenStudy (horsegal244):

@Luigi0210

OpenStudy (horsegal244):

@phi

OpenStudy (phi):

you did part A in the other post.

OpenStudy (horsegal244):

120/25 = 4.8

OpenStudy (phi):

yes A, is 4.8 inches for part B, can you write the ratios? give it a try.

OpenStudy (horsegal244):

huh?

OpenStudy (phi):

can you re-read the other post, and try to do that for part B ?

OpenStudy (horsegal244):

I can't by myself its a completely different question...

OpenStudy (phi):

not completely different. first, from the first sentence in the problem you should get this: 2 inches is to 25 miles

OpenStudy (horsegal244):

\[\frac{ 2 }{ 25 }\]

OpenStudy (phi):

in part B, it asks about 1/4 of an inch is how many miles write 1/4 inch is to x

OpenStudy (horsegal244):

\[\frac{ }{ 1/4 }\]

OpenStudy (phi):

almost. but the first ratio you wrote was 2 inches / 25 miles notice we have inches up top and miles in the bottom when you write 1/4 inches is to x miles, we want inches up top and miles in the bottom

OpenStudy (horsegal244):

\[\frac{ 1/4 }{ x }\]

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. with ratios, we set them equal to each other \[ \frac{2}{25}= \frac{1/4}{x} \] the "x miles" is in the bottom (as it should be), but it would be nicer if it were up top we can do that *if we flip* both sides

OpenStudy (phi):

\[ \frac{25}{2} = \frac{x}{1/4} \]

OpenStudy (horsegal244):

ok

OpenStudy (horsegal244):

now what

OpenStudy (phi):

it still looks a bit ugly, but we can "get rid of 1/4" by multiply top and bottom by 4

OpenStudy (phi):

in other words we do \[ \frac{x\cdot 4}{\frac{1}{4} \cdot 4} \]

OpenStudy (phi):

1/4 * 4 in the bottom simplifies to 1

OpenStudy (horsegal244):

x/1

OpenStudy (phi):

I hope you mean 4x/1

OpenStudy (horsegal244):

yea

OpenStudy (phi):

\[ \frac{25}{2} = \frac{x}{1/4} \\ \frac{25}{2} =4x\] I would divide both sides by 4 (to get x by itself)

OpenStudy (horsegal244):

6.25 and .5

OpenStudy (horsegal244):

@phi

OpenStudy (phi):

25/2 is 12.5 so you have 12.5 = 4x or 4x= 12.5 then divide both sides by 4 4x/4 = 12.5/4 x= 12.5/4

OpenStudy (horsegal244):

ok so what would i put in the box

OpenStudy (horsegal244):

12.5/4?

OpenStudy (phi):

I think they want you to first simplify that

OpenStudy (horsegal244):

3.25

OpenStudy (horsegal244):

@phi

OpenStudy (phi):

close. is you calculator broken?

OpenStudy (horsegal244):

idk oh 3.125

OpenStudy (phi):

yes, that looks good.

OpenStudy (horsegal244):

ok that is what i put in the box?

OpenStudy (phi):

for part B

OpenStudy (horsegal244):

2 more?
