Sodium sulfate reacts with carbon to produce the products sodium sulfide and carbon monoxide. Identify the reducing agent in the following reaction.
Na2SO4 + 4C yields Na2S + 4CO
A)Na2SO4
B)C
C)Na2S
D)CO
Pleaseee help I think it's A but i'm not sure. Will give a medal :)

rishavraj (rishavraj):
wht do u think ???which of the atom is oxidising
OpenStudy (welshfella):
which reactant is oxidized during the reaction?
OpenStudy (welshfella):
which gains oxygen?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Na2SO4 ?
OpenStudy (welshfella):
the one that is oxidised is the reducing agent

OpenStudy (welshfella):
No - that loses oxygen
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Oh is it C ?
OpenStudy (welshfella):
yes - it takes oxygen for the sodium sulphate thus reducing it to sodium sulphide
OpenStudy (anonymous):
So Na2S ?
OpenStudy (welshfella):
No its the carbon C which does the reducing
