With an average acceleration of -1.2 m/s2, how long will it take a cyclist to bring a bicycle with an initial speed of 6.5 m/s to a complete stop?
acceleration shows the rate at which velocity increases or decreases. And since the cyclist is traveling at 6.5m/s you just have to divide the preexisting velocity by the deceleration to get the time it takes for the cyclist to come to a stop. Alternatively you can use the equation below to better visualize what's happening in this question. v(final)=v(initial)+at where v=velocity a=acceleration t=time I hope this helps:) 0=6.5m/s-1.2m/s^2*(t)
\[a = \frac{ v_f - v_i }{ \Delta t }\]\[\Delta t = \frac{ v_f - v_i }{ a } = \frac{ 0-6.5 }{ -1.2 } = ?\]
