Using the kinetic theory, explain why a liquid has a definite volume but a gas does not?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A liquid has a definite volume because its molecules are not spread apart as much as the gas. Since a gas is hotter than a liquid (liquid turns into gas as temperature reaches boiling point), it has more heat. The heat breaks the molecules apart even more and it would collide with another in random motion. This is why molecules in a gas is very spread out. It is not possible to determine a definite volume for something so distant apart.
