Which of the following best describes why a solid has a lower entropy than that of a liquid? A.)a solid is more disordered than a liquid B.)a solid is more ordered than a liquid C.)a solid can melt into a liquid D.)most substances are solid

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can I Please Get Some Help?

OpenStudy (rushwr):

Entropy is the degree of disorder in a system. This all has to do with the degree of disorder in the molecules. The molecules in a solid do not move, they are stationary, the molecules in a liquid can move but do not move as much as the molecules in a gas.

OpenStudy (rushwr):

So what do u think the answer is ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I Think Its B

OpenStudy (rushwr):

Correct :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank You So Much! XD

OpenStudy (rushwr):

Anytym :) Hope u got it !!!!!!!!

I Have Another Question? if Your Willing To Help Me On It

OpenStudy (photon336):

|dw:1441383707961:dw| take a look at what's happening to the atoms in my poorly drawn figure. molecules in a solid are highly ordered, giving definite shape and volume. in a liquid theres' also intermolecular forces or attractions between molecules, they can slide over each other and helps to give you the physical properties of a liquid. a liquid has a definite volume but no definite shape. liquid will take shape of the container. gas particles can move freely and have no definite volume and shape, as they've overcome intermolecular forces.
