If the points (-4, 1) and (2, 1) are the endpoints of a diameter of a circle, where is the center?

OpenStudy (rock_mit182):

easy one fin the distance between those points

OpenStudy (rock_mit182):

p1 = (-4,1) p2 = (2,1) distance between P1 and P2 is given by : \[\sqrt{(x _{2}-x _{1})^{2} + (y _{2}-y_{1})^2}\]

OpenStudy (disqin):

Think! What's a diameter? . . . A line segments passing through the center that connects the opposite sides of circle. Plus, center lies at the mid point of the line. Hence center co-ordinates will be (by section method).. \[x=\frac{x_1+x_2}{2}=-1\] and \[y=\frac{y_1+y_2}{2}=1\]

OpenStudy (rock_mit182):

now divide the distance by 2 since the diameter is equal to : 2r (where r is the radius)
