CHECK MY ANSWER?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for WHAT?!?!?!?!

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

It's either y = 0 or, y = x - 2

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

not sure...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:'( i don't know this type of math.

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

no worries.

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

did you do polynomial/synthetic division? look at the remainder

OpenStudy (steve816):

It's y = x-6

OpenStudy (steve816):

oblique asymptotes can't be horizontal.

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

didn't think I could \[\frac{ (x-2)(x-2) }{ x }\]

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

you factored that miserably wrong.

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

jeeeezzz lol

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

x^2-4x+8 doesn't have rational roots.

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

i know i know cause x + 2 is stuck together lol

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

It does have complex roots, but that is beside the point. The proper way to do thsi problem is to do polynomial or synthetic division.

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

what is x^2-4x+8 divided by x+2?

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

synthetic <3

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

lemme do it right now :-)

OpenStudy (steve816):

You have to use synthetic division. Khan academy has a great video on it.

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

im so dumb WHY did I not see to use synthetic division lolllll @ me this is embarrassing

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

after doing the division you should come to the same conclusion as steve

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

thank you everyone lol

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

and I was wrong before, it is not the remainder you are interested in. it is the quotient.

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

correctttt didnt catch that

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

because for any remainder 1/(x^2-a) as x approaches infinity, the expression becomes zero and you are left with just the quotient.

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

isnt this so fun

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

or really 1/(polynomial in x)

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

it is great review for me, surely :)

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

got x -6! Thankkk you

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

:)

OpenStudy (kaylaprincess):

need more coffee brain is failingg
