WILL FAN AND MEDAL What is the position of an element in the periodic table if its electron configuration is 1s^2 2s^2 2p^6 3s^2 3p^5 ? In the group 5A element In the group 6A element In the group 3A element In the group 7A element

OpenStudy (rushwr):

This has 5 electrons in the outermost orbitals right? So it would be an element from 5A group !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

NO,it has 7 electrons in the outermost orbitals since electrons from both 3s and 3p are calculated .So it is definetely a 7A element! More.. -it has electrons on K L and M so the period is 3 -it has 7 electrons on M (outermost ) so it's on the 17th or 7A group :) -it's Cl
