What does solubility mean?

OpenStudy (photon336):

So basically there are two things you need to know Solute = what you put into a solvent Solvent the substance, liquid you put your solvent in. Solubility means how much of a solute that can dissolve in a solvent. Now say you have water and you put salt into it. Water is your solvent and salt is your solute. Remember like dissolves like so polar solute a will dissolve in polar solvents.

OpenStudy (photon336):

Remember solvents can only accept a certain amount of solute. Once the maximum amount of solute is dissolved we call that saturated solution. If you keep putting say salt in water there will be a point where it will precipitate, you'll see salt collecting at the bottom.
