Will Medal!Answer ASAP!!!! Please Help! X - 6 translates as "a number subtracted from 6." True False 2: One hundred is the solution of the equation m - 61 = 39. True False 3: 4b + 19 can be translated as "nineteen more than the product of 4 and a number." True False 4: "Five times a number" can be written as 5x. True False 5: To solve 38 = 6x - 16, you would subtract 16 and then divide by 6. True False

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for number 2 do 61+39 then you get m alone

OpenStudy (jessie13):

100?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

m=100

OpenStudy (jessie13):

what about the other ones?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know how do do number 5

OpenStudy (jessie13):

N o!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok for number 5 you have to subtract first then divide true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not true, it's -16 you'd add 16 to both sides to get 0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no you have to cancel out the 16 not actually subtract it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes what dang said

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes! Tricky wording on that problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha sorry

OpenStudy (jessie13):

okay what about 1,3,4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you go to connections academy?

OpenStudy (jessie13):

nope!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You know variables now? So think about number 1, If I say X = 10 and you plug it in, what would you do to solve it?

OpenStudy (jessie13):

IDK

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jessie are you freshman

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's ok I'm helping yea! we replace x with 10 like so \[10 - 6 = 4\] So what we did was remove 6 from some number, not remove some number from 6.

OpenStudy (jessie13):

nope

OpenStudy (jessie13):

@gmaalouf

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok but do you understand variables

OpenStudy (jessie13):

kinda!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well look at dangs comment

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that explains

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We don't want to just tell you flat out! That removes the fun of learning, but I'll be here to help yea.

OpenStudy (jessie13):

so the answer for #1 is true?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Did I subtract "some number" from 6 or did I 6 from "some number"? "some number in this case being x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you think? yes or no

OpenStudy (jessie13):

ya my final answer is false!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I agree with your conclusion! Let's look at the next one and see if you can reason some of it out. It helps to type out or say your thoughts out loud at times.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

jessie try number 4

OpenStudy (jessie13):

okay!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you think it is?

OpenStudy (jessie13):

I think its true?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I agree with your conclusion here too! If I say x = 2, you would multiply it by 5! Nice job.

OpenStudy (jessie13):

okay 3 i dont get it!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know what more stands for?

OpenStudy (jessie13):

greater

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok what about product

OpenStudy (jessie13):

result of multiplying

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 19+(more) the product of 4 and a number

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so do you think its true or false

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does it make sense

OpenStudy (jessie13):

True?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (jessie13):

okay thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Jessie, knocking it out!
