how do we determine the rate law of a chemical reaction by doing an experiment?
Sorry no idea.
There are various ways of determining the order of a reaction really. The very most popular and simply method I dare to say is to simply measure the concentration of substrate as a function of time and then plot the data against the linearized rate equations. This method is okay for simple reactions, however it is limited to "whole number"-reactions. For example a 1/2 order reaction you wouldn't see as easy.
You got the way how to write right?

you need to figure it out experimentally by keeping the concentration of one of your substances constant while studying the change in concentration for the other' that's how I remembered it.
