OpenStudy (rachie19):

help balance this equation for stoivhiometry. Na2 So4 + BaCl2---->> NaCl+BaSO4

OpenStudy (photon336):

@rachie19 let me ask you something, is this the first time you have to do this? what is confusing

OpenStudy (rachie19):

i want to know if i id it right . i got BaSo4+2NaCl. and i havent actua;;y learned it yet its for a prelab.

OpenStudy (rachie19):

@Photon336

OpenStudy (photon336):

TO balance a chemical reaction though it takes practice, but the first thing you need to do is to identify and make a chart like this: |dw:1443632818209:dw| identify each atom type in the reactants and write them down do the same thing for the products. after you do that write the number of atoms for each type in the reactants and products. when you do that if the number of atoms of each element on the reactants and products do not equal each other your equation is not balanced could you do that and then tell me what you get?

OpenStudy (photon336):

@rachie19 ?

OpenStudy (rachie19):

|dw:1443632948411:dw|

OpenStudy (photon336):

nice work, now from this it's pretty straightforward afterwards you can easily tell whether this is balanced or not @rachie19

OpenStudy (rachie19):

so 2NaCl 2S Ba O4

OpenStudy (rachie19):

i meant 2SO4

OpenStudy (photon336):

so yeah if you do this method it's an easy way to see whether your reaction isn't balanced or not almost so yeah you're right we need to put a 2 in front of NaCl to give us 2 atoms of Na and 2 atoms of Cl but you missed one thing. |dw:1443633584339:dw| after we do this we need to look at the whole reaction
