0.112dm3 of an organic compound X produces 0.88dm3 of CO2 find the no. of Carbon atoms in one molecule of X?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

Convert the volume of CO2 to moles, then multiply by avogadro's number. The resulting value is the number of carbon atoms.

OpenStudy (shikamaru11):

aaronq yeah but isn't that C4H10???

OpenStudy (aaronq):

where is butane in this question?

OpenStudy (shikamaru11):

I just asked Respected sir because the answer is 4 atoms but i don't know how it comes?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

Oh, sorry i read the question as if they only wanted the total number of carbon atoms. Hm can we assume that the rest of the matter on the organic compound is only hydrogen? If so, then you can compare the moles of carbon and the moles of hydrogen and get the empirical formula.

OpenStudy (shikamaru11):

well Thanks coming Sir It's your Kindness :) Stay happy

OpenStudy (aaronq):

no problem, hope that helped !

OpenStudy (shikamaru11):

:) I guess it's
