Which of the following atoms has no electrons? Will medal and fan! H- He 2+ H He

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My answer is C

OpenStudy (blind_love149):

ya its C

OpenStudy (photon336):

@TheImpossibleGirl54 we need to explain this though

OpenStudy (photon336):

in the nucleus, electrons are negative and are outside the nucleus, while protons are positive and inside the nucleus. |dw:1444426925052:dw| every atom the number of protons = the number of electrons. which means that the elements on the periodic table are neutral. now something happens where you have a charge. if you have a positive charge that means that there are more protons than electrons, called a cation if you have a negative charge that means that you have more electrons than protons. called an anion.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

According to the answer key it was actually B

OpenStudy (photon336):

@TheImpossibleGirl54 try to follow along, I will explain to you why it's B

OpenStudy (blind_love149):

it's ok, i got it, thank you though

OpenStudy (photon336):

|dw:1444427084427:dw|

OpenStudy (photon336):

@TheImpossibleGirl54 so looking at what I wrote above why would these two be wrong?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I get it. Theres going to need to be an addition 2 to cancel out

OpenStudy (photon336):

@theimpossiblegirl54 whenever you have an element that has no charge either + or n - written on top of it, that means that the number of electrons equals the number of protons.

OpenStudy (blind_love149):

oh you were talking to her, lol my bad

OpenStudy (photon336):

you can follow along too @blind_Love149 |dw:1444427285494:dw| in the figure above, @theimpossiblegirl54 can you tell me how many protons and electrons this element has?
