to the horizontal direction since there is no acceleration with use of S=ut you can find the time spent

the same time which is found from the above method is taken for the ball to reach the ground from top. Since at the start the balll only had a horizontal velocity (no vertical velocity) you can use another equation to find the travelled vertical distance by applying the equation to the vertical direction
