OpenStudy (cooltowl):

You heated 2.92g of baking soda in a crucible to produce 1.810g of a solid product. The product could be NaOH, Na2CO3, or NaO2. What mass of NaOH could you have produced?

OpenStudy (jebonna):

First find the moles of baking soda by doing mass over molar mass which is: 2.92g/84g mol-1 = 0.0348 (3 sig.fig) Assuming 1 mol of baking soda is used to create 1 mol of NaOH, you can then fond the amount of grams of NaOH is produced. First deduce the moles, so because 1 mole of baking soda is used to create 1 mole of NaOH, we can say that 0.0348mol of baking soda was used to create 0.0348mol of NaOH We can then find out the amount of grams by using this formula: molar mass x moles 40g mol-1 x 0.0348mol = 1.392g This means 1.392g of NaOH could have been produced. I hope this is correct, I'm a little tired xD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

NaHCO3→NaOH+CO2 is our theoretical reaction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

looks good though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

quite ambiguous when it says 1.81g of solid product. lel
