so how do u use the Lewis dot structure to show the ionic bonding in the following pairs of elements. Show the transfer of electrons using arrows. Write the correct chemical formula for the ionic compound that forms Barium Oxide (Ba and O) can some one please explain how to do this please????

OpenStudy (photon336):

Well, barium is in group 2 right, so in lewis dot structures we only show the valence electrons. oxygen is in group 8 so we do the same thing, we draw the number of valence electrons for each like this. |dw:1444779359852:dw| BaO chemical formula. since this is an ionic compound, both of the electrons are going to be transferred from barium to oxygen, that's what happens we're no longer sharing electrons but transferring them from the metal to the non-metal.
