fluorine has the smallest atomic radius

OpenStudy (18jonea):

When comparing the relative size of an ion to its neutral atom, the radius of an anion is identical to the radius of its neutral atom. radius of an anion is greater than the radius of its neutral atom. radius of a cation is greater than the radius of its neutral atom. radius of a cation is identical to the radius of its neutral atom. is this b

Its B @18jonea

OpenStudy (rushwr):

Anions are groups that take in electrons. In a neutral atom the no. of electrons = no. of protons. But in an anion the no. of electrons are greater than the no. of protons. Thus the attraction between the outermost electron and the the nucleus decreases thus increasing the size. The cation scenario is the complete opposite of this.
