OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

If the formula for a compound is represented by XY2 and the charge on the Y ion is -2, what is the charge in the X ion? +1 +2 +3 +4 would it be +2?

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

@Jesstho.-.

OpenStudy (greatlife44):

Is there an ion? as in a charge. If not then the sum of the oxidation states = 0. We have XY2 2 atoms of Y *-2 = -4, and we have one atom of X so it must be +4
