OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

Can someone explain the basic definition of covalent and ionic bonds to me and the difference between them?

OpenStudy (photon336):

Ionic bond is a metal and a non metal. The electrons are transferred. For instance Na-Cl One electron is transferred from na to Cl and Cl gains an electron. Na is happy with losing its electron. Or Covalent bond the electrons are shared. Cl2 chlorine gas. Cl-Cl the electrons are shared between both chlorine atoms.
