An ionic bond occurs between a metal and a non metal The metal transfers its electrons to the non-metal. metals generally like to lose electrons and because of this they have low electronegativites Non metals like to gain electrons because they have a higher electronegatvity. But the reason for this is that non metals like to gain electrons because they can satisfy octet in doing so. Same for non metals. make sense so far?
