OpenStudy (celinegirl):

Two metals are used to make batteries. Would a battery in which both metals components are copper, make a good battery? Explain your reasoning.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, they have to be dis-similar metals. The farther apart from each other on the galvanic series the better.

OpenStudy (celinegirl):

@Lemons okay thanks(: is that a good explanation though?

imqwerty (imqwerty):

the current in a flows because of the potential difference at the 2 poles. if both metals are copper than the potential difference will be 0 so current will not flow. So therefore both the metals shuld be different.

OpenStudy (celinegirl):

@imqwerty wow im surprised.. thanks

OpenStudy (celinegirl):

@imqwerty wait did you mean the current doesn't flow? in the first line

imqwerty (imqwerty):

no sry i mean like both poles made of same metal will not create potential difference and therefore they won't generate power. :) a battery's wrk is to generate power and cuz of same potential difference it won't be able to generate power
