OpenStudy (tootzrll):

someone please help ASAP!! Which of the following chemical formulas shows an ionic compound? A. CO2 B. N2O C. NaCl D. C6H12O6

pooja195 (pooja195):

We can rule out D automatically because it contains a poly atomic ion

OpenStudy (tootzrll):

okay...

pooja195 (pooja195):

What do you think the answer is?

OpenStudy (tootzrll):

probably b or c

pooja195 (pooja195):

Lets see For B N=nitrogen - charge=-3 O=oxygen -charge=-2 Given:N2O It's not correct

pooja195 (pooja195):

The formula should have been N2O3

OpenStudy (tootzrll):

so b and d are out... it cant be A cuz thats carbon dioxide? so c right?

pooja195 (pooja195):

Lets see CO2 C=Carbon-charge=-4 O=oxygen-charge=-2 The formula is incorrect because there is no 4 it should have bee C2O4

pooja195 (pooja195):

That leaves us with C Na=sodium-charge=+1 Cl=Chlorine-charge=-1 This is correct because the ones cancel out Therefore what is left is NaCl

OpenStudy (tootzrll):

okay! thanks pooja!!! :]]] i posted this question on the wrong subject lol oops

pooja195 (pooja195):

Its alright other subjects are dead ;p and no problem let me know if you need more help :)

OpenStudy (tootzrll):

pooja195 (pooja195):
