An atom of selenium (Se) forms a monatomic ion. Which of the following ions does is most likely form? Possible answer choices: Se^2+ Se^6- Se^6+ Se^2- My answer. I wish to learn and understand. That being said I will post 'why' I think this answer is correct, when the thread becomes active.

Selenium being in the same column of the periodic table, 'family', as oxygen which form oxide 0^2- and sulfur which forms sulfide S^-2.

Your reasoning is sound. If Selenium was going to form a monatomic ion it would indeed most likely form the -2 anion of Se^2-.
