wht are the nuclear properties??? ruthrford experiment??

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

Substantially, the Rutherford experiment allow us to calculate the \(cross\; section\) of the scattering between the alpha particles and the nuclei of gold

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u tell me why only goldn foil is used...is thr any specific reason or does it was random (or accidental) experiment...??

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

The cross section of a scattering process, it is a very important quantity, which give us some helpful indications of the nature of the interaction force, between the incident particles and the scattered particles, of such collision

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay...

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

sincerely speaking, I don't know, why the physics of Rutherford group chose the gold

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

oops.. I meant ...why the physicists of Rutherford's group...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this que arises becaz our proffesors used to asked it daily....n they evn didnt tell us ans....thts y i m asking.....:)

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

ok! ) I can say that atomic weight of gold is higher than atomic weight of Aluminum, furthermore density of gold is higher than density of aluminum, maybe those are the reasons for choosing gold and not Aluminum.
