OpenStudy (melissa_something):

What's the name of an orbital with l=1 and l=3 and why?!

OpenStudy (micahm):

Quantum number - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_number Wikipedia There are four quantum numbers which can describe an electron in an atom completely. ... is called an s orbital, "ℓ = 1" a p orbital, "ℓ = 2" a d orbital, and "ℓ = 3" an f orbital. The value of ℓ ranges from 0 to n − 1, because the first p orbital (ℓ = 1) ...

OpenStudy (micahm):

did that help

OpenStudy (melissa_something):

Okay, so would you get that from the periodic table?

OpenStudy (melissa_something):

Or I'm just gonna have to memorize?

OpenStudy (micahm):

you might i am not 100% sure

OpenStudy (melissa_something):

So I can't look at the table and know it?

OpenStudy (micahm):

if you want

OpenStudy (melissa_something):

But idk where I'd look haha

OpenStudy (micahm):

you could google it i not that great in this class but i pass it

OpenStudy (melissa_something):

I understand :) Thank you

OpenStudy (caozeyuan):

s region of the table contain alkali and alkali earth metal, p region is the other main groups, d region is the B groups, and finally f region are the two special series. Technically, orbitals above f exist, but there are no atoms with enough electrons to reach these orbitals
