What is the relationship between intermolecular forces and the kinetic energy of the molecules? The answers to a question before this one was liquid, solid, and gas.

Clearly, More inter molecular forces would mean that molecules have a tendency to stick closer. However, since greater KE means they want to fall apart, more forces would mean lesser KE. Also, In an ideal gas, the KE does not depend on these forces as they are considered negligible in ideal gases. Another way to see could be that solids have the highest forces, and lowest molecular motion, so the KE decreases as forces increase.
