A piece of ice of mass 40 g is dropped into 20 g of water at 50 Kelvin.Calculate the final temperature of water after all the ice has melted. Sp heat capacity of water = 4200 J kg K And L of ice = 336000 J kg^-1

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

here the melting of the sample of ice occurs, furthermore, the water so produced is heated at the final temperature \(t_e\). So we can write the subsequent equation of energy balance: \[\Large L{m_1} + {c_1}{m_1}\left( {{t_e} - {t_0}} \right) = {c_w}{m_2}\left( {{t_2} - {t_e}} \right)\] where \(m_1\) is the mass of sample of ice, \(t_0=0°C=273.15K\), \(t_2=50K\), \(c_w\)=specific heat of water, \(m_2\) is the mass of water at \(50K\)

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

and \(c_1\) is the specific heat of ice

Is the final ans 8.75
