OpenStudy (desmarie):

If the electron configuration of sodium is 1s22s22p63s1 and the valence electrons were removed what would the ion charge be?

OpenStudy (jebonna):

When you remove an electron from any element the charge will always become positive because there will be more protons in the nucleus than electrons in its shells. From this information you can tell the charge will be positive. Sodium is in group 1, so it has one valence electron. From this information we know we will need to take away 1 electron. Can you work out the answer from this? :)

OpenStudy (desmarie):

thanks so much!!

OpenStudy (jebonna):

No problem :)
