In this equation they solved, i was wondering why they were able to take away sin x from the numerator (1st and 2nd step)

OpenStudy (helpjebal):

OpenStudy (helpjebal):

by doing so, the denominator is now sin^2 x, why is that?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

First, the numerator was factored. sin x was a factor of each of the two terms there, and was factored out. Second, since \[\sin^2x+\cos^2x=1, \]

OpenStudy (mathmale):

\[1-\cos^2x =\sin^2x. \]

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Trig identity. If this problem is still not clear to you, please ask further questions.

Ohhh, okay I understand now. Took me a while to fully understand what you meant, hence the long time to respond. Thank you!
