Horizontal asymptotes occur when the function gets closer and closer to a certain y value as x becomes larger and larger. Look at \[\frac{ 6x-37 }{ x-7 }\]
Supposing that x were to grow larger and larger, the fraction will get closer and closer to which y value? Alternatively, divide every term in the numerator and denominator by the highest x power, which is just x. Then, \[y=\frac{ \frac{ 6x-37 }{ x } }{ \frac{ x-7 }{ x } }\]
Again, ask yourself what happens as x grows large. Note: (6x-37)/x reduces to 6-37/x. Simplify the denominator in the same way.
