Acid base equiblirum question!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How to make the eqaution ? from the info given?

OpenStudy (caozeyuan):

C, because it says second eq point, so the secondary dissociates of H3PO4 is H2PO4- to HPO42-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if it didnt say second eq the answer would be ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@caozeyuan

OpenStudy (caozeyuan):

A, because it means complete reaction, i.e. all three combined

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so on my acid base table there are 2 sides , one acids and others bases only

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so when the Q says second eq i only look at bases or what /

OpenStudy (caozeyuan):

the second eq point means your acid is the one that has one proton removed

OpenStudy (caozeyuan):

e.g what is the second eq point of H2SO4 with NaOH A: HSO4- + OH- = SO42- + H2O

OpenStudy (caozeyuan):

you see here in my example the acid is not H2SO4 but HSO4-

OpenStudy (caozeyuan):

Also, in your example, it is possible to have third eq point, but not in my example because SO42- is fully deprotonated
