i have a question......WILL MEDAL & fan please help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (kkutie7):

I've been getting a lot of inequality questions as of late... here we go

OpenStudy (kkutie7):

\[\frac{x}{-2}-8\le-2\] \[\frac{x}{-2}\le6\] \[x\ge-12\] the great or equal sign means that the circle is filled in. the answer is C. I hope you understand enough to do the rest if not give me a holler

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you @Kkutie7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope.... im stuck @Kkutie7

OpenStudy (kkutie7):

show me where you are stuck and I will assist.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uhm, idk......everything i guess

OpenStudy (kkutie7):

well why don't you start on number 2 and we will work together until you understand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (kkutie7):

\[\frac{x}{4}-8>-11\] we need to solve for x can you show me a first step?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uh....would you do the math with out x to find out what it is?

OpenStudy (kkutie7):

what you do to one side you do to the other here: \[(\frac{x}{4}-8)+8>(-11)+8\] can you show me the result?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya. one sec. let me draw it out

OpenStudy (kkutie7):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x>-12 is what i got

OpenStudy (kkutie7):

yes that is correct. now > doesn't have a line under it so we know that the circle is empty. and we know that the solution is for x that is greater than -12 can you find the matching number line?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it A or B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A?

OpenStudy (kkutie7):

see the circle on -12 if the equation has > or < then its not filled in if it has \[\ge or\le\] it has to be filled in

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh. so B?

OpenStudy (kkutie7):

no A is correct because our equation had > no line underneath= not filled in

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, psh duh

OpenStudy (kkutie7):

I think you go it =)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok. thank you sooo much.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is this correct
