Hello. I have tried this question three times and have gotten three different answers-none of them correct :( Please help! I will post a picture of the question to make it easier. What I tried: I tried finding the volume of the cone and then inputting that into the equation for the volume of the sphere, then trying to make r the subject.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is number 6.

OpenStudy (baru):

hi

OpenStudy (baru):

the method you are using is correct

OpenStudy (baru):

what is the formula for volume of a cone?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hi! The formula I am given is \[Volume= \frac{ 1 }{ 3 }\pi r ^{2}h\]

OpenStudy (baru):

can you tell me what you got for volume of the cone after substituting r and h

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 50.064 (rounded off)

OpenStudy (baru):

ok...that looks fine. can you tell the formula for volume of a sphere

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ 4 }{ 3 }\pi r ^{3}\]

OpenStudy (baru):

so \[\frac{ 4 }{ 3 }\pi r ^{3}=50.06\]

OpenStudy (baru):

solve for r what do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3.46 (again rounded off)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I multiplied by 3, divided by 4, divided by pi and then found the cubed root

OpenStudy (baru):

yes, the procedure is right, but i seem to get 2.88 do you know what the right answer is? what value did you use for \(\pi\)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer is supposed to be 2.29 when rounded. I used my calculator value

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe I press the wrong button? I will try again...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got it...I used the square root not the cubed root on the last step....I am so sorry!

OpenStudy (baru):

ok, lets do it this way \[\frac{ 4 }{ 3 } \pi r^3=\frac{1}{3} \pi \times 2.4^2 \times 8.3\]

OpenStudy (baru):

\(\pi ~and~ 1/3 \) cancel leaving \[4 r^3= \times 2.4^2 \times 8.3\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so much for your help! I really do appreciate it, I am so sorry for wasting your time!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was pressing the wrong button to get the cubed root and I was getting the squared root instead...

OpenStudy (baru):

\[r^3= \frac{2.4^2 \times 8.3}{4}\]

OpenStudy (baru):

oh..ok then :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:D Thank you!!
